Why broker latency matters for trading
Latency is the round-trip time between your VPS and your broker's trading server, measured in milliseconds. Lower latency means orders reach the broker faster, cutting slippage and requotes on fast-moving pairs. It matters most for scalping, news trading, and automated MT4/MT5 strategies. The biggest factor is distance: a VPS in the same data-center region as your broker's matching engine will beat one hosted near your home.
How to check latency to your own broker
Always test from inside the VPS over Remote Desktop, not from your home PC — only the VPS-to-broker path reflects your live trading conditions.
- Connect to your DigiRDP Forex VPS via RDP and open Command Prompt.
- Find your broker's server IP: check the MT4/MT5 Journal tab, or open Windows Resource Monitor's Network tab while the terminal is connected to see the live server address.
- Run
pingagainst that IP to read the round-trip time in milliseconds. - If ping is blocked (many broker firewalls drop ICMP), test the actual trading port with a TCP tool such as psping instead.
How to pick the right DigiRDP location
Match the VPS to your broker's server location, not to where you live. Many retail brokers such as IC Markets, Pepperstone, Exness, XM and Vantage route through the London LD4 zone, so a UK VPS is the safe default. Choose New York for Oanda, FXCM and US-regulated brokers, and Singapore for Asian-session strategies. Use the table above to confirm the lowest-latency location for the exact brokers you trade.
